2018 Van Operating Recap: Adrian, Texas
Friday, September 7 – Setup started at 1:00 pm local in the lot directly east of the Fabulous 40’s Motel on Historic Route 66 in Adrian, TX. Room 10 was available for bathroom and rest breaks. Ramona Kiewert and family were our excellent hosts again this year. Midpoint Café, next door to the motel, was a great spot for breakfast, lunch and their famous “Ugly Pie.”
Route 66 OTA Operations commenced at 7:00 pm (local).
Saturday, September 8 – The van stayed overnight in Adrian and operations recommenced around 9:00 am (local). We had a nice group of visitors and operators: Del AG5QU, Daniel KG5KIF, Dan KG5JED, Charlie W5CEH, Mark KG5NWE, Melinda KG5NWD , Kim WK5X, David WA5X, Betty W5UGR, Maury W5UGQ and Jamie AB7II.
We were able to make contacts on 40 and 80 meters phone (Melinda KG5NWD, Kim WK5X, Dave WA5X, Del AG5QU, Daniel KG5KIF, and Dan KG5JED) and FT8 (Daniel KG5KIF).
Sunday, September 9 – No Adrian operation.
Due to conflicts with work schedules and other area events the van was unable to operate in Adrian during the second weekend. We are hoping for better circumstances and band conditions for 2019!
